Why you shouldn’t start the new year with a content calendar

You’re back at work, full of energy and ideas for the year ahead, and ready to start posting again.

Before you do though, here’s something worth pausing on.

If you’re planning your social media for 2026, please don’t start with a content calendar.
I know how easy it is to jump straight to what to post. But before you do that, it really helps to be clear on why you’re posting at all.
That means taking a step back and asking:
🔵 Who are you really talking to – and how do you genuinely help them?
🔵 What role do you actually want social media to play in your business?
🔵 What stories are already happening that only you can tell?

Because if you’re not clear on those simple things, it’s very hard for the right people to feel clarity too.

The brands and leaders who will stand out in 2026 won’t be the ones posting the most. They’ll be the ones with clear messages.
Familiar voices. A clear sense of purpose.
And that’s what builds trust – which, really, is what social media should be doing for our businesses in 2026.
If you want more confidence and direction with your social media this year, do get in touch. This is exactly the work I focus on.
