The Story Behind Telling Tales Media

Let me tell you a story.

I have this ‘friend’ who worked for a global business. Before that, she’d worked in marketing and communications for over 15 years’, so had plenty of experience to draw on in her role to make a real impact in her work.

And that she did – because one day, she was asked to take on a new challenge: to create a much-needed social media strategy and lead the firm’s social media presence. She jumped at the chance.

Over the next four years, she led the social media team, helping to grow the company’s LinkedIn following from 282,000 to over half a million, while engagement soared to 10.4%. She launched an employee advocacy programme, coaching 200 of the firm’s senior leaders to elevate their personal brands online.

On paper, things were going great. But deep down, she felt called to do something different. She wanted to take everything she had learned at the corporate level and use it to support small business owners who felt stuck with social media – the ones with big ambitions but without the resources or strategy to make social media really work for them.

Around the same time, she wrote and published a children’s picture book. As she used her social media background to share it online, she realised something powerful: storytelling was at the heart of social media marketing. The posts that shared stories – from everyday moments to big launches – always outperformed the ones that were purely “informative.”

That was the spark. She saw how her two worlds – social media management and storytelling – could come together to help businesses grow.

So, she made a leap. She left the comfort of the global business, took her skills, her experience, and her passion for storytelling, and launched her own company.

That business is called Telling Tales Media.

And yes — that ‘friend’ is me.

What I Do Today

Today, I help business owners who feel overwhelmed by social media. Most of my clients know they should be showing up online, but they’re either posting ad-hoc without a clear social media strategy, or they’re just not seeing the engagement and growth they want.

As a freelance social media manager, I combine strategy with the art of storytelling in marketing  – drawing on my background as both a social media manager and children’s author – to help businesses turn everyday moments into content that builds trust, connection, and visibility.

Because when your story is clear, your content doesn’t just fill a feed – it grows your audience, sparks engagement, drives website traffic, and delivers real business results.

How I work

Whether I’m managing your social media, creating content for you, or developing a clear strategy, I make the process simple, collaborative, and tailored to your business. My goal is to help you show up online naturally – with confidence, consistency, and impact.

If you’d like to explore how I can support your business, let’s chat.

I’d love to hear your story.
